AVM Stephen Meredith,  AM

Air Vice-Marshal Stephen Meredith joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1986 and, after initial officer training, graduated from the School of Air Navigation in 1987. He completed a flying tour as a navigator with 37 Squadron on C-130E aircraft prior to converting to F-111 strike aircraft in 1991. After completing F-111 conversion, he completed a flying tour at No. 1 Squadron.

In 1995 he was posted to 6 Squadron as an Instructor Navigator. During this time, in addition to instructional duties, he participated in the development of the training syllabus as part of the Avionics Upgrade Program (AUP) and conducted test flying of kitproof and production modified AUP aircraft.

He was promoted to Squadron Leader in 1998, and was posted to the Defence Material Organisation where he contributed to a number of F-111 related projects including the Interim Electronic Warfare Project. In July 1999 he was posted back to 6 Squadron as the Executive Officer. In 2002 he completed Australian Command and Staff College in Canberra. Following Staff College he was posted to Air Force Headquarters as Staff Officer to the Deputy Chief of Air Force.

In 2003 he was promoted to Wing Commander and posted to Capability Development Group as the Deputy Director of Combat Enablers. During this time he worked on numerous weapons projects for several different aircraft types. In January 2006 he was posted to 82WG as the Executive Officer.

In December 2006, Air Vice-Marshal Meredith took up command of No 6 Squadron and oversaw the retirement of the F-111G aircraft. In late 2008 he was promoted to Group Captain and was appointed Officer Commanding 42WG, and contributed to the introduction into service of the E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft. He was deployed from this role to the US Air Forces Central Command Combined Air Operations Centre as a Battle Director as part of Operation Slipper.

On his return to Australia he was appointed as Chief of Staff to the CDF, and was selected to attend the Defence and Strategic Studies Course at the Australian Defence College in 2013. Upon completion of the course, Air Vice-Marshal Meredith was promoted to Air Commodore and served as the Deputy Air Commander Australia, Headquarters Air Command. In December 2014, he was appointed Commander Aerospace Operational Support Group and became the inaugural Commander of the Air Warfare Centre upon its formation in January 2016. He was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in January 2016 for his contribution to Air Force Capability sustainment. In January 2017, Air Vice-Marshal Meredith again deployed to the Combined Air Operations Centre, this time as the CAOC Director. He was promoted to Air Vice-Marshal and appointed to his current position as Head Force Integration in December 2017.

He is married to Sue and they have a daughter Giaan and son Benjamin. His interests include golf, fishing, rugby and travel with his family.
